Frequently asked questions
The things people ask us most about SIA licensing, our courses and security cover.
Do I need a First Aid certificate before the SIA course?
Yes. Emergency First Aid at Work is a legal requirement before you can apply for an SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence. If you do not have one, we can arrange it before your course starts.
How long does an SIA licence last?
Three years. Your qualification certificate does not expire, but the licence itself must be renewed, and a refresher course is required as part of that.
What is the difference between Security Guard and Door Supervisor?
A Security Guard licence covers retail, construction, offices and public facilities. It does not cover bars, nightclubs or arenas. For licensed venues and events you need the Door Supervisor licence.
Do I need to be 18?
Yes, both the Security Guard and Door Supervisor courses require you to be 18 or over.
How often do I need to renew a Scottish Personal Licence?
You must complete refresher training every five years, and renew the licence itself every ten years through your local council.
Where are the courses held?
At our training centre at 13 Newton Place, Glasgow, G3 7PR. It is central and easy to reach by public transport.
Do you provide security as well as training?
Yes. We supply SIA licensed door supervisors, event security, retail officers and mobile patrols across Glasgow and the Central Belt.
Can you cover a one off event?
Yes, from a single evening function to a multi day festival. Get in touch with the dates and we will scope it.
Still need an answer?
Tell us what you need and we will come back with a price and available dates. If it is urgent, the phone is quicker.
